About us ( deutsche Version)
Our old-established restaurant is situated in the old town center of Oppenheim, close to the ancient market place. In 1923 the winery Josef Blum und Völker was founded in that building, which was the birthplace of Paul Wallot (26.06.1841), the architect of the Reichstag in Berlin. Already well-known for our excellent wine-growing estate we opened our Straußwirtschaft in 1992 a temporary set up inn, typical for this region. It achieved such success that we converted it into a Gutsausschank, open all year 1997. It was during the same year that Susanne Völker, daughter of the family, became Rhine-Hessian wine queen. In the following year, 1998, she was elected 50th German wine queen.
Nowadays, a modern restaurant and a lovely garden, popular as an open air restaurant, are awaiting you a place which combines Rhine-Hessian ambience with Mediterranean air and which connects according to our motto delight with culture and arts.
Alternating art exhibitions in our gallery constantly offer new impressions. A special attraction of our house is the play Dinner for One the famous British TV-sketch with Freddy Frinton. We offer it in a German Rhine-Hessian version, based on the translation of Klaus Modick. The play continues to attract people from near and far in its sixth year!
